Those changed behaviors in PHP 8.0+
Details
Dear members,
We started 2023 with two great lectures. With our upcoming meetup, we'll make that three! Our next meetup in May will be about changed behaviors in PHP 8.0+. Together with Damien Seguy we'll review the hidden changes in PHP features of the 8 series.
The lecture:
Adding features and backward incompatibilities are a reality of any version migration. And then, changed behaviors are a category on its own. To the naked eye, nothing has changed: the code stays the same. Under the hood, edge cases are now producing results with a distinct new flavor. How long before you start noticing them?
We’ll review the hidden changes in PHP features of the 8 series. It helps us spot them in the source code, and understand how PHP works. And it would be so nice to avoid creating the same anti-pattern in our own libraries.
About Damien Seguy:
Damien Seguy is CTO at Exakat Ltd., a company specialized in PHP code quality solutions for the industry. He leads the development of the Exakat PHP static analysis engine, that automatically audit code for version compatibility, security and dead code. Since last millennium, Damien has contributed to PHP as documentation author, elephpant breeder and conference UFO on all continents. He also enjoys machine learning, Gremlin, 狮子头 and camembert.
About the location:
The meetup is hosted at IB the data company, located in the heart of Eindhoven. We will be offered food (pizza, vegan as well) and drinks. Everybody is encouraged to attend about an hour prior to the lectures, so we can have a chat while enjoying our food.
IB is located at an inspiring location adjacent the railway. The building where IB is located lays between the railway and the Fuutlaan, crossed opposite the Effenaar. Free parking spots are available around the building on the premises.
To reach the building, enter the gate halfway the Fuutlaan, opposite house number 23. In case the gate is closed, please ring IB using the correct button.
IB is hiring!
IB the data company is one of the largest data processors in the Dutch construction sector. Over the past eighteen years, we have built a number of tools and systems that have grown to monolithic dimensions, are difficult to maintain, and lack documentation and proper testing.
That's why we decided to rebuild all applications from the ground up. We are currently in a research phase and want to use the Micro Service architecture, experimenting with Event-Sourcing, CQRS and distributed messaging/streaming as a communication layer between the micro services.
In short, would you like to think along and help build this new project?
Do you already have experience and do you think you can help us? Or do you just want to work in a great company and learn a lot about micro services and everything that comes with it? Come to the meetup and let's have a talk!
