Testing Absolute Units
Details
Hi everybody,
Best wishes for 2023! We hope you had a great holiday last weeks.
We start the year with an interesting lecture. We all know that testing is important. But...are we doing it? Pim will talk about testing and not testing.
The lecture:
Isn't writing tests hard? As much as we believe in testing, tests make our life difficult. Too much boilerplate, too rigid, tee dee dee is not for me. Don't you wonder sometimes: what am I even writing tests for?
Worry not! Fear no more! So do I! Fortunately there are tricks that can make our life easy. In fact, with the right approach, tests are the only thing you have to think about... Wouldn't you love to just chill like that?
Let's discuss the pain of development without and with tests. Let's deal with testing Absolute Units.
About Pim Elshoff:
Like you, Pim is on a quest to do things a little bit better every time. As a scrum developer, he has extensive experience with solid coding, patient mentoring and tackling big projects using Domain Driven Design.
Presentations by Pim are always fun, engaging and conversational. But don't fret; if you just want to listen and let others speak, it *will* be worth your time.
Pim has joined Superscript in 2022 where the complexities of tech and insurance meet each other in the <3 of software.
About IB the data company:
IB the data company is one of the largest data processors in the Dutch construction sector. Over the past eighteen years, we have built a number of tools and systems that have grown to monolithic dimensions, are difficult to maintain, and lack documentation and proper testing.
That's why we decided to rebuild all applications from the ground up. We are currently in a research phase and want to use the Micro Service architecture, experimenting with Event-Sourcing, CQRS and distributed messaging/streaming as a communication layer between the micro services.
In short, would you like to think along and help build this new project? Do you already have experience and do you think you can help us? Or do you just want to work in a great company and learn a lot about micro services and everything that comes with it? Come to the meetup and let's have a talk!
About the location:
The meetup is hosted at IB the data company, located in the heart of Eindhoven. We will be offered food (pizza, vegan as well) and drinks. Everybody is encouraged to attend about an hour prior to the lectures, so we can have a chat while enjoying our food.
IB is located at an inspiring location adjacent the railway. The building where IB is located lays between the railway and the Fuutlaan, crossed opposite the Effenaar. Free parking spots are available around the building on the premises.
To reach the building, enter the gate halfway the Fuutlaan, opposite house number 23. In case the gate is closed, please ring IB using the correct button.
About the meetup:
• attending the meetup is free (as in free beer);
• free food (pizza, vegetarian as well) and free drinks;
• food is available between 18:00 and 19:00;
• prize raffle (JetBrains license) every meetup;
